Green Small Business EMS: The basics
A Green Small Business environmental management system comprises two main elements:
- Environmental policy.
- Environmental action plan, containing information on:
- The environmental impacts of the business or organisation.
- The proposed actions to address these impacts.
- Who is responsible for implementing these actions.
- The timescales for completing these actions.
- The measures that will be used to assess progress.
How is a Green Small Business EMS prepared?
The Green Small Business Handbook, our completely free step-by-step guide, contains all of the guidance that you need to successfully create your own environmental management system. The handbook takes you step-by-step through the process of preparing your Environmental Policy and Environmental Action Plan.
You can also purchase our ‘Making it Easy’ pack, containing templates and examples which can be used and adapted to suit your business.
We can also provide independent certification for your Green Small Business environmental management system, which could be a valuable marketing tool for your business and help you to manage and monitor progress.
Finally, if you would like us to do the work for you, we can prepare your Green Small Business environmental management system on your behalf. If you choose this option, we will set up a voice or video call with you to ask you a series of questions about your business. We will then use the information we have gathered to prepare your environmental management system. Once you are happy with it, we’ll provide you with Green Small Business certification.
What is Green Small Business certification?
This is independent confirmation for your customers and potential customers that you are aware of the environmental impacts of your business and that you are actively managing them.
You will get a digital certificate confirming your certification and we will supply you with the ‘Green Small Business certified’ logo that you can use on your website and other digital and printed materials.
Certification lasts for 12 months at a time. If you want to renew your certification when it expires, we will send you a simple audit form to complete so that we can assess your progress over the previous 12 months. We will then issue you with a new certificate and you can continue to use the ‘Green Small Business Certified’ logo.
